Chinley Beacon Lighting Ceremony - Remembrance Sunday

Chinley Beacon Lighting Ceremony - Remembrance Sunday

On the evening of Remembrance Sunday a beacon will be lit on Squirrel Green in Chinley. This is part of a national tribute to the millions of men and women who died or were injured in the First World War. More than 1,200 Beacons of Light will be lit all across the country at 7pm symbolising an end to the darkness of war and a return to the light of peace.

Please congregate on Green Lane and Princes Road from 6:45pm. A short ceremony lasting no more than 15 minutes will begin just after 6:45pm culminating in the lighting of the beacon at 7pm.

After the beacon lighting ceremony refreshments will be served in the WI Hall where a local history display may also be viewed. Donations welcomed for Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

This event will go ahead whatever the weather. For more information please contact the Parish Clerk.
